My Coaching Model
The dictionary defines pact as “an agreement between two or more parties for mutual advantage.”
A-PACT
Awareness is the fulcrum that keeps the four elements moving, each feeding into and off from the other for more significant insights, momentum and growth.
Awareness
Planning
Action
Clarity
Tracking
I have designed the A-PACT coaching model on the premise that you, as the client, will have a pact with yourself for your growth and success.
A-PACT Model Explained
1. Awareness
The longest journey of any man is the journey inward.
-Dag Hammarskjold
All transformation begins with awareness.
You experience some pain or pleasure, that awareness then triggers the need for change, an urge to move towards or away from something.
As a Coach, my role is to support you in exploring your thoughts, feelings, choices, decisions, behaviours, habits and actions.
It is to enable you to get to know yourself better as you express your dreams, aspirations & goals, identify fears, limiting beliefs and other obstacles in your path to growth and success.
I will support you as you embark on a journey of discovering who you really are, what you want, where you are currently, and where you wish to be.
2. Planning
I find it fascinating that most people plan their vacations with better care than they do their lives.
-Jim Rohn
Next, the ‘aware’ you start planning your life across key areas that matter ( ex: health, finances, relationships, career/business growth)
At this stage, you will start developing multiple perspectives on where you currently are, where you wish to be and what it will take to get there.
As a coach, I will challenge you to stretch, look beyond what’s visible, be comfortable with not knowing everything, commit to moving forward and also jointly figure out ways to stay motivated.
My effort is to enable you to scale up the quality of your thinking, to support you in making wiser choices and decisions.
3. Action
You can’t cross the sea by merely staring at the water.
-Rabindranath Tagore
You have made a plan to move forward to achieve your goals. I now nudge you to take small steps, little actions that will help create new, empowering habits, actions that will move you towards your goals and strengthen your self-belief.
I will partner you in breaking down the plan into easily workable chunks and support you in breaking those chunks further into specific action steps.
Throughout this stage, I gently move you from vague self promises to specific commitments.
4. Clarity
Efficiency is doing things right, while effectiveness is doing the right things.
–Peter Drucker
By now, you are moving beyond your comfort zones, through the newer territory, experiencing some unknowns.
Getting clarity on how you are progressing, how far you have come and how easy it has been can be a great source of motivation to keep you moving towards your goals.
It also helps you to know if you are on course or have you deviated, if it’s the latter then I support you to come back on track and stay focused.
5. Tracking
Feedback is the breakfast of champions.
–Ken Blanchard & Spencer Johnson
Having enabled you to become more aware, make a plan and also start taking action towards your goals, I now encourage you to focus on what’s working well and how that could be scaled up & used for further growth.
By now you will have started figuring out your own success formula, some of which could be repeated for similar or greater results in the future.
The tracking stage is also the kaizen stage; you will focus on continuous improvement; your mantra of sorts will be ‘ what gets measured, gets improved upon.’
The A PACT model at every stage is supporting you to unleash the immense greatness that already exists within you!
What is Coaching
The International Coach Federation (ICF) describes coaching as:
Partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential.
International Coach Federation
Globally renowned and respected (late) Coach Sir John Whitmore said:
Having or working with a coach helps you to remove the internal obstacles so that you can perform much better than you currently are. Coaching is helping you to learn rather than teaching you, it focuses on bringing out your inherent, natural learning capability.
Sir John Whitmore
Both of the above descriptions resonate with me. I believe that the power of coaching rests in creating a safe, confidential, non-judgmental space to support Clients and enable them on their journey of self-exploration, self-awareness and clarity.
Coaching involves starting from a place of belief and curiosity. It is supporting the client as they get to know themselves better. Coaching allows people to learn to think clearly, make better choices, develop empowering behaviours, and take greater ownership for their growth and success, thereby unleashing their greatness.
